About

The Makati Human Milk Bank (MHMB) is a specialized medical facility dedicated to saving infant lives by providing safe, pasteurized donor human milk to vulnerable newborns. Operating under strict quality control standards, the facility screens lactating mothers, processes donations, and distributes life-saving nutrition to premature infants, low birth weight babies, and newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) who lack access to their own mother's milk.

Through community-driven procurement programs—including MOM's Act (Milk on Move) home pickups, SUPSUP Todo barangay milk-letting drives, Milkyway hospital collections at the Ospital ng Makati, and standard walk-in donations—MHMB bridges the gap between healthy donor mothers and high-risk infants to ensure no critical baby goes without essential nutrition. Beneficiary

Pasteurized donor human milk from the Makati Human Milk Bank provides critical medical and developmental benefits to vulnerable infants, serving as a shield against severe complications during their first days of life.

Reduces the Risk of Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC)

For premature and low birth weight infants, donor human milk reduces the incidence of NEC, a severe, potentially fatal intestinal disease, by up to 79% compared to feeding with bovine-based formula.

Accelerates Gastrointestinal Maturation

Human milk contains bioactive factors, hormones, and growth factors that help mature the infant's gut lining, improving nutrient absorption and digestion.

Enhances Immune Protection

It delivers essential antibodies (such as IgA), lactoferrin, and lysozymes that help protect high-risk newborns against systemic infections, sepsis, and diarrhea while their immune systems are still developing.

Shortens Hospital and NICU Stays

Infants fed with human milk achieve full enteral feeding (feeding entirely through the gut) faster, leading to quicker weight stabilization and fewer days spent in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Improves Long-Term Developmental Outcomes

The specific fatty acids and nutrients in human milk support optimal brain development, visual acuity, and long-term cardiovascular health in premature babies.
